Biography

Justin Neely is a painter, instructor, technologist, and sometime illeist living and working in Brooklyn, New York.

He disdains the short biography format.

Artist's Statement

I make art to enjoy what Harold Rosenberg described as "the openness of the creative act." I keep theoretical agendas out of what I do, chasing accidents of beauty and interpretation.

I don't like to use words to describe what happens when I paint and draw. I end up writing things that are obfuscatory or evasive. So rather than dissemble here, I quote Herbert Read: "I can't tell you. It can only be told in paint."
